Setting Up Your New Microsoft 365 Email Account
What You’ll Need
- Your new email address
- Your temporary password
- Access to your phone if multi-factor authentication is required
Outlook for Windows
- Open Outlook.
- Select File.
- Select Add Account.
- Enter your new email address.
- Select Connect.
- Enter your password when prompted.
- Complete any multi-factor authentication prompts.
- Select Finish.
If Outlook asks what type of account this is, choose Microsoft 365, Office 365, or Exchange.
New Outlook for Windows
- Open Outlook.
- Select Settings.
- Go to Accounts.
- Select Add Account.
- Enter your new email address.
- Select Continue.
- Sign in with your password.
- Complete any multi-factor authentication prompts.
Outlook for Mac
- Open Outlook.
- Go to Outlook > Settings or Preferences.
- Select Accounts.
- Click the + button.
- Select Add Email Account.
- Enter your new email address.
- Follow the sign-in prompts.
- Complete any multi-factor authentication prompts.
Outlook Mobile App
- Install the Microsoft Outlook app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
- Open the Outlook app.
- Tap Add Account.
- Enter your new email address.
- Tap Continue or Sign In.
- Enter your password.
- Complete any multi-factor authentication prompts.
- Tap Skip if prompted to add another account.
Webmail Access
- Go to https://outlook.office.com.
- Sign in with your new email address.
- Enter your password.
- Complete any multi-factor authentication prompts.
Troubleshooting
If you cannot sign in:
- Confirm your email address is typed correctly.
- Confirm you are using the temporary or current password provided.
- Try signing in at https://outlook.office.com first.
- Restart Outlook and try adding the account again.
- Contact IT if your password does not work or you are unable to complete multi-factor authentication.
Important Notes
- Do not share your password with anyone.
- You may be prompted to create a new password after signing in for the first time.
- If multi-factor authentication is required, follow the on-screen instructions to register your phone or authentication app.
